Can ChatGPT replace professional copywriters and do homework for students?
ChatGPT and similar technologies can provide significant support to writers by generating ideas, assisting with content creation, and improving efficiency. However, professional copywriters bring a unique human touch, creativity, and understanding of nuances that AI may not fully replicate. Copywriters can infuse emotions, storytelling, and tailored messaging that resonates with specific audiences in ways that AI may struggle with.
So, while AI tools like ChatGPT can be powerful aids, they are unlikely to render professional copywriters jobless, but rather complement their skills and productivity.
Another questions is how teachers can spot the use of ChatGPT by their students, in order to check whether the answers in any homework is really the result of thinking skills and creativity of the students
themselves, and not generated by any form of Artificial Intelligence? Teachers can consider a few strategies:
1. Style and Language Consistency: If the writing style suddenly shifts to be markedly different from a student’s usual style, it could indicate the use of AI assistance. Teachers can compare the writing in question to the student’s previous work to look for inconsistencies.
2. Complexity and Sophistication: AI-generated content might sometimes exhibit a level of complexity or sophistication that is beyond what would typically be expected from a student at that level. Teachers
can look for signs of unusually advanced vocabulary, sentence structure,
or ideas.
3. Prompt-Specific Responses: When students are asked to respond to a specific prompt or question, AI-generated content might sometimes miss the mark or provide overly generic responses. Teachers can analyse the depth of understanding and relevance to the given topic.
4. Unusual Sources or Citations: If students include references or sources that seem unusual or out of context for their level of study, it could be a red flag. Teachers can cross-check these sources to verify
their authenticity.
5. Follow-up Questions and Discussions: Engaging students in discussions about their work, asking follow-up questions, or requesting them to elaborate on specific points can help teachers gauge the depth of their understanding and the authenticity of their work.
Ultimately, while the use of technology like ChatGPT can present challenges in academic settings, maintaining open communication with students, setting clear expectations about originality and the use of external tools, and providing guidance on ethical and responsible writing practices can help mitigate these issues.
